In its continuing mission to improve nursing care worldwide, Sigma Theta Tau continues to establish alliances with international health care organizations, support global nursing iniatives, collaborate with nurses worldwide and connect with members on an international level.

    Global Alliances

    Access the following resources for more information on the organizations in which the Society has formed an ongoing alliance.

    World Health Organization - the United Nations specialized agency for health which strives for attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health. Health is defined in WHO's Constitution as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

    Pan American Health Organization - an international public health agency with 100 years of experience in working to improve health and living standards of the countries of the Americas. It serves as the specialized organization for health of the Inter-American system and as Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization.

    Canadian Nurses Association - a federation of 11 provincial and territorial registered nurses associations representing more than 126,000 Canadian registered nurses. CNA is the national professional voice of Registered Nurses, supporting them in their practice and advocating for healthy public policy and a quality, publicly funded, not-for-profit health system.

    International Council of Nurses - a federation of national nurses’ associations (NNAs), representing nurses in more than 128 countries. ICN works to ensure quality nursing care for all, sound health policies globally, the advancement of nursing knowledge, and the presence worldwide of a respected nursing profession and a competent and satisfied nursing workforce.

    The Joanna Briggs Institute - an international Research and Development Unit of Royal Adelaide Hospital, and an Affiliated Institute of the University of Adelaide. Provides a collaborative approach to the evaluation of evidence based research derived from a diverse range of sources, and the translation, transfer and utilisation of the "best available" evidence into health care practice.

    American International Health Alliance - advances global health through volunteer-driven partnerships and programs that mobilize communities to better address healthcare priorities, while improving productivity and quality of care.

    Plexus Institute - The Institute’s mission is to foster the health of individuals, families, communities, organizations and our natural environment by helping people use concepts emerging from the new science of complexity.
