The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, appoints Advisory Council on Policy to support President Huston’s call to action
Honor society aims to strengthen its global influence through council’s work
Indianapolis, IN -- The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, has appointed an advisory council to focus on a critical aspect of the strategic plan outlined by President Carol J. Huston in her November 2007 call to action, “Leading Globally.” The 19-person advisory council, comprised of preeminent experts and scholars in the fields of nursing and policy, was formed to clearly define the honor society’s role in health policy, both in developing position statements and in utilizing those positions as a basis for global action.
President Huston has appointed David M. Keepnews, RN, PhD, JD, FAAN as chair of the advisory council. Keepnews currently serves as an associate professor at Adelphi University School of Nursing and is the editor-in-chief of Policy, Politics & Nursing Practice.
“I am excited by the work that the new Advisory Council on Policy has before it,” explains Keepnews, “and I am honored by the opportunity to serve as chair. I am thrilled and humbled to be working with such a remarkable group.”
The advisory council’s objective is to identify opportunities to strengthen the global influence of the honor society in order to continue to improve the health of individuals worldwide.
“This is a big task. Fortunately, the members of this committee come with truly exceptional expertise, experience and leadership that is more than equal to the challenge,” says Keepnews.
