The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, announces three new nursing awards

Indianapolis – The Honor Society of Nursing is pleased to announce its three newest honors: The Helen Henry Excellence of Care Award, Geriatric Nursing Leadership Award and Practice/Academe Innovation Collaboration Award.  These awards will join the 13 other International Awards for Nursing Excellence which recognize achievements in the fields of technology, media, chapter excellence, research and leadership.

The Helen Henry Excellence of Care Award honors nurses who demonstrate excellence in their bedside manner.  The award was established by Bonnie Wesorick, RN, MSN, in memory of her mother, Helen Henry.

“My mother was a loving soul who innately understood the importance of nursing,” says Wesorick.  “In honoring her I wanted also to honor the essence of nursing.  The Sigma Theta Tau Foundation is the one place that her memory could be rooted in the voice that connects the nurse healers across the world.”

The Geriatric Nursing Leadership Award honors nurses who show outstanding leadership, vision and service in the field of geriatric nursing.  The recipient should demonstrate a concrete and substantial impact on the care of older adults.  The honoree will also receive a $2,000 stipend.  The award is made possible with support from The John A. Hartford Foundation.

The Practice/Academe Innovation Collaboration Award will recognize an institution or group that has shown a commitment to optimizing the way in which nursing practice and academe interact.  The award recipient(s) will have advanced the profession of nursing in their community while also improving patient care.

The awards continue to carry out the honor society’s mission of supporting the learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses committed to making a difference in health worldwide.  The International Awards for Nursing Excellence will be presented at the 40th Annual Biennial Convention, 31 October through 4 November 2009 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.  Nominations are being accepted beginning 1 November 2008.

Complete submission information for these awards can be found at http://www.nursingsociety.org/Awards/international/Pages/InternationalAwardsforNursingExcellence.aspx.  For further information on the award application process, please contact the honor society at +1.317.634.8171 (toll-free 888.634.7575) or e-mail: awards@stti.org.
