Developing Career-spanning Leadership Skills

Suggestions on how members and chapters can develop career-spanning leadership skills.

 

 

Members

Chapters

  • Create a five-10 year leadership succession plan for chapter officers.

  • Feature local nurse leader success stories in chapter newsletters.

  • Offer educational programs that provide chapter members the skills to successfully and confidently interact with the media.

  • Sponsor students and new members to attend the annual International Nursing Research Congress, the Leadership Academy, the Geriatric Nursing Leadership Academy and the biennial convention.

  • Create a formal mentoring program for all new inductees and chapter officers.

  • Pair retired chapter members with nursing students and novice nurses to encourage new mentoring and networking opportunities.

  • Ensure that the chapter ballot includes young and new chapter members.
